Sports Day 2019 1230

SPORTS PUPIL PREMIUM

In 2013 The Government announced that it would be providing additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sports in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school head teachers. The money must be used to improve the provision of P.E. and school sports.

P.E. and school sports play a very important part in the life of Frant Primary School. We believe that P.E. and school sports contribute to the holistic development of our children and through participation, our children build and learn more about our key values such as respect, unity, cooperation, and kindness for themselves and others.

We are therefore delighted to be able to use the sport premium funding to support the development of P.E. and school sport in the ways listed below.

How we spend Sports Funding

We will use the funding this year to continue to:

  • Provide a PE trained teacher to teach alongside the class teacher for development opportunities enabling quality teaching and learning for all children. The PE teacher will take weekly PE lessons with each class.  The class teachers are expected to support and observe these lessons to improve their own practice.  All children will therefore benefit from specialist sports teaching to improve their skills, their confidence, and abilities to take part in a range of sporting activities.
  • Allow the PE trained teacher to support the P.E Lead in liaising with schools and organising other events across a range of disciplines throughout the year and across the year groups.
  • Hold intra school events for all the sports taught throughout year within the PE curriculum.  This creates more opportunities for competition for all pupils
  • Purchase new sports equipment to be used in P.E lessons and our after school clubs.
  • Enable increased participation in competitive sports events with other primary schools in the local area
  • Increase participation by including clubs for non-traditional sports
  • Train play leaders in year 6 to lead physical activities during the lunch hour (run by Uplands)
  • Continue to offer a wide range and number of school activities to pupils across the school (Netball, Football, Cross Country Running, Athletics, Tag rugby, Hockey, Tennis, Cricket,  Swimming, Dance and Gymnastics.

We feel that this is the most effective and efficient way for the funding to have a long-lasting and positive effect on the future learning and physical development of children within our school. Our overall aim is to raise standards in P.E. and school sports increasing the participation and opportunities offered to our children in traditional and non-traditional sports.  The PE Coordinator and specialist PE Teacher will continue to review provision and its impact termly, making recommendations and changes to class teachers and the SLT.

Swimming in school takes place in years 3 and 4.  All children in these year groups go swimming for two terms each year in groups of 15.   These normally take place in terms 1 to 4 in each of these years.

HOW THE IMPACT WILL BE MEASURED:

1. Teachers will continue to develop their planning and teaching to ensure that P.E is taught to the highest standards.

2.  Monitoring the uptake of places in school club P.E activities.  We expect to see an increase in percentage uptake. Children will feel more confident to participate.

- School newsletters include regular reports on every sporting event and competition entered which include a child’s achievements at both an individual and team level.  This information is also available on the website.

- Sports award assembly at the end of the school year for all parents to attend.  School celebrates and recognises achievement in competitions. Individual cups are awarded for a range of attributes which include; commitment, achievement, effort, sportsmanship, development, and attitude.

- Sports noticeboard on the school wall outside of school as well as an annual display at the sports award assembly.

3. Pupil Voice – Audit of children’s confidence and understanding of PE skills throughout the year

4. Pupils will be keen to participate in sport activities with other schools.

The impact of the measures is to ensure that all children have developed their skills, stamina and enjoyment of the sport to take forward with them as they progress through education and into adult life.  We want all children to have a love of sport and an understanding of the impact of this on their health and wellbeing.  As a small school, we are very fortunate to have a trained PE teacher to support us and ensure that all the improvements we make are sustainable.  Our PE teacher and PE Coordinator review the impact of all the sports in school termly ensuring all staff are trained to support the delivery of PE lessons, that all children are included and are making progress, keep parents up to date and work with club providers to ensure a broad range of activities are on offer.
