Dear Parents,

Firstly, huge congratulations to the children in KS2 for their amazing performances of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ this week! The many hours of rehearsals were rewarded and the performances were a great success.  Thank you to all the staff, children and parents for your hard work over the past few weeks and to the FMCS for providing  refreshments at the performances.

A huge well done to all children who undertook SATs tests this year. We are proud of the results of every single person and would like to say a great big well done to everybody for contributing to the results.

Congratulations to all the children for their great progress this year and a huge ‘thank you’ to the whole teaching team for their hard work throughout the year and the great results across the school in each year group.

Our new all-weather track has finally been completed this week and we look forward to it being in use soon!

We have the FMCS BBQ this evening which I’m sure will be a lovely evening.  A huge ‘thank you’ to the team for their amazing fundraising this year and to you all for supporting the events.

As we are nearly at the end of term can we please remind you that everything needs to be taken home next week.  Please do check PE kits over the summer and see if anything needs replacing in time for the new term – children do tend to grow over the break!

This will be my final newsletter at Mark Cross so I would like to say how much I have enjoyed working with everyone here and how wonderful your children are.  I would also like to thank you all for your support during my time at Mark Cross and wish you all a fabulous summer break.  I know that the school will continue to go from strength to strength in September and that you will continue to support the staff in the new academic year.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend – only 4 days to go!

Mrs Gander-Miller
Head of School

Other News

Beauty and the Beast performance

On Wednesday afternoon and Thursday evening, Key Stage Two pupils (Years 3,4,5 and 6) presented their performance of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to families and friends of Mark Cross.  The children had worked extremely hard in the preceding few weeks to learn all their lines and lyrics; rehearse their scenes and transform themselves into character.  All of their efforts were demonstrated to the full in their two amazing performances.  The audience’s applause and delighted faces said it all – fantastic!  Thank you to everyone, in a multitude of ways, who supported the preparations and performances. The pupils learn and grow so much in being able to participate in such a wonderful celebration of talent.

Safety in Action

We have another huge congratulations to give to Year 6 this week. Recently they went to ‘Safety in Action’ at Bowles Outdoor Centre. During this they were awarded points for every post they visited and they won the most points for Road Safety! They beat lots of schools and on Tuesday were awarded with a framed certificate, an engraved plaque and a cheque for the school. Well done all of you- you represented the school wonderfully!

Chestnut House
The winning house with the most Housepoints for this year is Chestnut House – well done!

Parking difficulties in Mark Cross
As mentioned in a recent Parentmail, the Parish Council are reviewing the parking difficulties in Mark Cross and would welcome your comments and suggestions.  If you have any concerns about the parking situation, ideas about how it could be improved, or concerns about the new enforcement signs outside the Church please email the council at Clerk@rotherfieldparishcouncil.co.uk  This issue will be considered at the next meeting of the Council's Highways Committee meeting on Tuesday 17th July.  Please feel free to attend the meeting to listen to the responses we have received and our discussion about the issue.

Someone Else Picking Up?

If there is someone else collecting your child from school the class teacher needs to know.  Always write details in the book located in the plastic holder outside each classroom.

Please call the school office as soon as possible in the morning if your child is unwell.  The office staff can then notify your child’s teacher.

The 48 Hour Rule

Remember if your child has had a tummy upset or sickness bug we ask that he or she remains at home for 48 hours after the last bout of illness.

Lost Property

The lost property box is located just through the hall doors so if you think you may have lost something please do have a look through. Please, please name all uniform including coats, it makes it much easier to return lost items.
