French
At Mark Cross CEA Primary School, we have chosen French as the modern foreign language to teach our pupils. French is taught in Key Stage 2 beginning with basic skills and understanding in Owl class before embedding and building upon those basics as they move into Fox class. Children begin with lots of talking and listening, listening to native French speakers to ensure pronunciation is taught correctly. By learning French, pupils will be able to express their thoughts and ideas in another language, understanding and responding to speakers both in speech and in writing. Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures, fostering pupil’s curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world.
